Wildmate

Privacy policy

Effective date: 25 October 2026. Version v0.4. Applies to the first release with no accounts and bundled maps and trails.

Wildmate is operated by individual developer Sun ShanShan. Contact: [email protected].

Information processed on your device

With location permission, the app processes location, time, accuracy and device-provided altitude on your phone for map positioning, nearby trails, following a route, off-route alerts and hike recording. After you start navigation or recording, location can continue while the screen is locked or the app is in the background. Pausing, finishing, permission changes or system interruptions affect capture. You can browse trails and photos without location permission.

Favourites, language and voice settings, hike summaries and tracks are stored locally. This version offers no accounts, sign-in, Wildmate cloud backup or cross-device sync, and does not automatically upload these records to Wildmate. Maps, trails and photos are bundled with the app; content updates arrive through app versions.

The app has no advertising or advertising-tracking features. Location, distance, time and elevation readings depend on device, signal and source quality and are not guaranteed accurate or live reports of conditions.

System services and external services you choose to use

Voice prompts use the device system or an installed speech engine. Offline availability depends on language and installed resources. Speech-resource installation, system location assistance, operating-system backups and device migration are controlled by their respective systems and settings, separately from Wildmate account sync.

If you open a map-source or other external link, your browser and the destination website may process network information such as your IP address under their own policies. App-store installation, updates and store testing are also subject to the platform's policies.

Usage analytics and crash diagnostics

Release builds use Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. Usage events (such as viewing a route, applying filters, changing favourites and recording transitions), app/device metadata and installation identifiers are sent to Google for product measurement and fault diagnosis. Reports may be buffered by the SDK while offline and uploaded later. Application event payloads exclude precise location, raw tracks, route/record IDs, user-entered names, search text and credentials. Dart error messages are replaced with fixed categories and code-only stack frames; native crash reports contain platform diagnostic information. Advertising identifiers, advertising personalisation and optional Analytics account data sharing are disabled. These services do not require a Wildmate account or upload hike records for backup. Network requests expose connection metadata to the service; Analytics can derive an approximate region from network information. Navigation and recording remain usable when telemetry is unavailable.

Google may process analytics and diagnostic information outside Hong Kong. Selecting Hong Kong as the Analytics reporting location does not restrict storage to Hong Kong. Analytics and diagnostic data are handled under the relevant Google service settings and retention rules. This version has no in-app analytics switch. Contact [email protected] to request access to or deletion of analytics or diagnostic information. We will assess which information can be identified and which actions are available; deleting a local hike does not automatically delete diagnostic reports already sent. See Firebase privacy and security and the Google Privacy Policy.

Support email

When you email [email protected], we receive your sender address, message and attachments to answer your request and handle data enquiries. Cloudflare Email Routing forwards messages to Google Gmail. Please do not send passwords, verification codes or unnecessary complete tracks.

Support messages and attachments are retained for 180 days after the issue is resolved, then deleted. You may request earlier deletion at [email protected]. We reply through the support email process and do not promise a fixed response time.

Retention and deletion

Delete unwanted recordings in the app, remove saved trails from favourites, and withdraw location permission in system settings. Finish or pause an active recording first so the deletion scope is clear. Uninstalling normally removes private app data; operating-system backup or migration copies are managed through system settings and may remain. Wildmate has no cloud copy from which to recover deleted local data.

We cannot remotely read or delete tracks stored only on your phone. Contact the email above to request access, correction or deletion of personal information you submitted through support. We request only verification proportionate to the request.

Age and policy changes

The service is intended for users aged 13 or older. Minors should hike with a parent or guardian and use the service under their guidance. A store content rating does not indicate that a user is capable of hiking independently. Adding accounts, online services or new data processing will require updated information and any necessary choices.
